Standing majestically above the waters of Lake Vanajavesi, Häme Castle is one of the three largest medieval castles in Finland and one of the most important historic sights in Tavastia Proper. Over the centuries, the castle has seen its fair share of glory and decline, and its building history has been a continuing saga for 700 years. Within its thick stone walls, visitors can learn about Finland's fascinating history from the Middle Ages to today. Although the precise timeframe of the castle's construction is not known, it was at least completed before the end of the 13th century. The first written mention of the castle is from 1308. Today, Häme Castle houses a museum. The Museum Card is accepted here. The Linnanniemi combination ticket is accepted at the Häme Castle museum, Museo Militaria and Prison Museum.
