Hämeenlinna region

Hämeenlinna is situated in the middle of Southern Finland. It is located less than 2 hours from Helsinki and Helsinki Airport by car or train. It’s a great place to experience the real Finland during your stopover in the country. As the oldest inland town in Finland, Hämeenlinna charms visitors with unrivalled attractions and experiences. It offers a unique blend of old and new, nature and culture, urban sceneries and countryside landscapes – all in harmony and easy to experience all year round.

In addition to its stunning landmark, the Häme Castle, Hämeenlinna is also known as the childhood home of Jean Sibelius, Finland’s national composer. Sibelius was born in Hämeenlinna in 1865. With its numerous golf courses and other sports and recreation facilities, including a spa, the Aulanko nature conservation area, sitting in a beautiful natural setting, is guaranteed to provide our visitors with a memorable experience.

The neighbouring municipalities also offer plenty to see and do.

Located next to Hämeenlinna, Janakkala offers everything you need for spending some quality free time – and much more. You can choose from downhill biking, golf, cross-country skiing, football, ice hockey, fishing, bowling, choir singing, downhill skiing, canoeing and kayaking, ski jumping, wrestling, horse riding, floorball, skateboarding, theatre and athletics. You won’t be short of things to do here. In addition to museums and other historical attractions, the Puuhamaa theme park and nature sites will be certain hits with adults and children alike.

Located north of the town of Hämeenlinna amidst beautiful waterways, Hattula boasts several must-see visitor attractions. The best-known of these is the Church of the Holy Cross, built in the Gothic style in the 15th century, making it the oldest church in Tavastia. Other places of interest include the Lepaa Winery and Orchard by Lake Vanajavesi and the Parola Tank Museum, which exhibits a superb collection documenting military history.

The Hämeenlinna region is packed with things to do, all handily located. See a medieval castle, enjoy a round of golf on one of the five top-class golf courses in Hämeenlinna’s Tiilaakso, pamper yourself in a spa and enjoy an energy boost in Aulanko, one of Finland’s most beautiful areas.
