Forssa, Humppila, Jokioinen, Tammela and Ypäjä, the five municipalities of the Forssa area, are located at the heart of the beautiful Tavastia, and only an hour’s drive from Finland’s main cities. With a wealth of interesting places to see, the region invites visitors to experience Finland’s nature and its unique history, culture and events, along with the Finnish hospitality, at their best.
With a picturesque Loimijoki river running through it, Forssa is an idyllic, small Finnish town. Sitting amidst this beautiful river scenery, the historical Spinning Mill area with its museums and parks makes for a fascinating place to visit. Housed in one of the mill buildings, the Forssa Museum is a popular tourist attraction, which has received international awards, and the lush green area holds the status of a national urban park. Forssa is known as a sports town, and its centre boasts a popular spa and pool complex Vesihelmi, while the Pilvenmäki trotting centre offers speed and excitement to horse-racing fans. Visitors can enjoy an introduction to local history at the Theatre for Moving Pictures, the Ronttismäki Factory Workers’ Museum and the Museum Estate Hevossilta.
A local hub for trade, Humppila is located at the crossroads of busy national roads. Craftsmanship is highly valued in Humppila, and the area houses several arts and crafts studios. In addition to shopping, Humppila offers an opportunity to experience a museum train trip and to visit a local history museum.
In Jokioinen, beautiful nature and a unique cultural milieu blend together. The area is characterised by the mansion and its history, industry, research and art. The domestic animal and pet park Elonkierto and train trips on the Jokioinen museum railway are summertime favourites for families with children.
Tammela is located in the most picturesque part of Tavastia, amidst the lakes of the Tammela upland. The Saari Folk Park and Liesjärvi and Torronsuo National Parks offer a great opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, either independently or as a guided hike. The Häme Nature Centre serves as an information point for national parks and hiking trails, while the Eerikkälä Sports Institute provides world-class sports, coaching and recreational services. At the Porras Tannery museum, Mustiala Mansion and Vekkilä Farm museum, visitors can enjoy an interesting introduction to local history and traditional Finnish lifestyle.
In 1982, Ypäjä became the official equine capital of Finland. The Ypäjä Equine College is an internationally renowned institute, which arranges numerous equestrian competitions and events. The college area also houses the Finnish Equestrian Museum. A round of golf in the beautiful river setting of the 18-hole Loimijoki Golf Course makes a nice outdoorsy programme for a day, which can be rounded off by a stay in one of the area’s charming farmhouse bed-and-breakfast facilities.
Enjoy small-town charm and the best offerings of the Finnish nature in the Forssa region.
